Security & IT Solutions for Apartment Blocks

A single building with many independent households needs building-wide control with per-unit flexibility.

01 · The Problem
Uncontrolled building entry, no visitor screening per unit, shared corridors with no oversight

Unlike a single home, an apartment block has one shared entrance serving many independent households, each with their own visitors, deliveries and staff. Without a proper system, the building entrance is either left effectively open (a broken buzzer, a propped door) or every visit requires a resident to physically come down to let someone in -- neither works well at scale.

What This Actually Needs

A properly secured apartment block combines:

03 · Integration
How These Work Together

The building entrance door station connects to every unit's indoor intercom station, so a visitor can be screened and admitted remotely by the specific resident they're visiting, without anyone else in the building being involved. A master station gives the caretaker or building management independent oversight and door release. CCTV at the lobby and parking area backs up who actually entered, and fire alarm zoning by floor means an alarm identifies which part of the building needs attention.

04 · Maintenance
Keeping It Running

Apartment block systems are shared infrastructure -- maintenance is best arranged through the building management or body corporate under one contract covering the entrance, intercom network and common-area cameras, rather than per-unit arrangements. See our intercom maintenance page for the specific service.

05 · Recommended Approach
Where to Start

Start with the main entrance -- video intercom and access control here address the highest-impact gap. Extend to common-area CCTV (lobby, parking, corridors) next, and ensure fire alarm zoning is in place per floor as a baseline life-safety requirement regardless of other security investment.

Questions

Can each unit have a different number of authorized users?

Yes -- each unit's indoor station and any additional access credentials are managed independently per household.

What happens if a resident moves out?

Their credentials and any programmed intercom settings tied to that unit can be reset or reassigned to the new occupant without affecting other units.

Is this different from estate security?

Yes -- an apartment block is one building with a single shared entrance, while an estate is multiple separate homes sharing a perimeter and common gate. The systems used overlap but are configured differently for each context.
