A video intercom lets you see and speak to a visitor and open the door or gate from inside or from your phone. A door station at the entrance connects to one or more indoor screens, and optionally to a phone app.

What decides the design

  • Count the entrances and the apartments or offices that need a monitor.
  • Choose IP (network) for new buildings and 2-wire kits for retrofits.
  • Plan cabling from the door station to every monitor and to the lock power supply.
  • Decide if visitors should be able to call a phone when nobody is home.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Mounting the door station facing the sun, which washes out the picture.
  • Using the wrong lock voltage for the power supply.
  • No backup power, so the gate does not open during a power cut.
  • Using analogue cable over long runs for IP systems.
