Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR, also called LPR) reads a vehicle's plate as it approaches the gate and checks it against the estate's list of approved vehicles. Residents drive in without stopping, and every vehicle movement is recorded.
ANPR is the core of Qyvea's smart vehicle access for estates.
The camera is dedicated to plate capture: mounted at a fixed angle to the lane, with its own infrared illumination for night reads. The recognition result is checked against three lists: residents (open), visitors with a valid time window (open), and blacklisted vehicles (stay closed and alert the guard).
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Camera angle & height | Plates read best when the camera looks along the lane at a shallow angle, not across it. |
| Vehicle speed | A speed hump or lane geometry that slows vehicles before the capture point improves reads. |
| Night illumination | Dedicated IR lets plates be read in darkness without dazzling drivers. |
| Plate condition | Dirty, damaged, tinted or non-standard plates reduce recognition. A fallback (tag, guard override) is needed. |
| Lane layout | One vehicle in the capture zone at a time avoids reading the wrong car. |

Yes. ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) and LPR (licence plate recognition) describe the same technology.
Yes, when the camera has infrared illumination designed for plate capture and is positioned correctly for the lane.
The system falls back to a guard override or a secondary credential such as a UHF tag, so residents are never locked out.
Usually, where the existing gate motor or barrier controller accepts a trigger input. This is checked during the assessment.
