What size solar water heater do I need?
Size by how many people use hot water each day and how they use it. As a rough starting point, a small family often fits a 150 to 200 litre system and a larger household a 300 litre system; hotels, schools and hospitals need a design based on actual demand. The site survey checks your usage, roof and water pressure before recommending a size.
Pressurised or non-pressurised?
- Non-pressurised (gravity): simpler and lower cost; suits homes with a roof tank and gravity-fed plumbing.
- Pressurised: works with mains or pump pressure for stronger showers; needs suitable plumbing and valves.
- Backup element: an electric element tops up the heat on cloudy days.
Installation
Prices above are for the equipment only. Installation covers mounting on the roof, plumbing connections and commissioning, and is quoted after a free site survey so you know the full cost first. Pair it with solar power installation to cut your power bill further.
