Why Solar Light Prices Differ So Much in Kenya
Walk through a market or scroll an online shop and you will see solar lights at KES 1,500, KES 5,000 and KES 25,000, all described as "solar security light". The price difference is real. Here is what explains it.
Battery size and type
The battery decides how long the light runs after dark. A bigger battery costs more. Cheap lights often use very small batteries, which is why they fade by midnight.
Panel size
A larger solar panel charges the battery faster and better on cloudy days. In all-in-one lights the panel is on the unit, so a bigger light usually means a larger panel.

Ask us on WhatsAppThe LED array and brightness
More LEDs and better optics light a wider area. The wattage number on the label is a rating of the model. It helps you compare sizes within one range, but it does not tell you everything about quality.
Sensor, controller and build
A good radar motion sensor, a controller that protects the battery, and a sealed body that handles rain all add cost. The cheapest lights skip them.
What is included
Pole, bracket, remote, delivery and support are all part of the price. A cheap light may leave them out.
Frequently asked questions
Is the most expensive light the best?
Not always. Choose the size that fits your area and check battery and sensor, then compare what is included.
Is it safe to buy the cheapest?
For decorative use, yes. For security, a very cheap light often fails when you need it.
Need help choosing?
Tell us where you want the light and we will recommend the right size, even if it means a cheaper one.
