Automatic Gate Opening By Itself — Causes and Fixes
A gate that opens with nobody pressing anything is a security problem, so treat it as urgent. The cause is almost always a trigger signal the controller is receiving — here is how to track it down.
Likely causes
- A stuck remote — a remote with a jammed button in a car or drawer keeps sending "open". Take the batteries out of spare remotes to test.
- Exit button or intercom wiring — water in a push-button or a damaged cable can short the trigger input.
- GSM opener users — someone authorised on a GSM unit is calling it; check the user list.
- Settings — some controllers have auto-open or "holiday lockout" options that behave unexpectedly after a reset.
- Lost or cloned remote — delete remotes you can't account for.
Fixing it
