How much does a slow, dropping network cost your team every single day? Read on: it takes a few minutes and could save you a lot more than that. **In this guide you will see:** - Sign-ups paused in some counties from July 2026 due to capacity. - Congested cells mean slower peak-hour speeds. - Plan terms (data, priority) are in the Starlink app. Quick answer On 7 July 2026, Starlink paused new sign-ups in several Kenyan counties, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa and Machakos, because demand had exhausted available network capacity. In busy areas speeds can drop at peak times, and plans may deprioritise heavy users. Check your plan's data terms in the Starlink app, and for businesses, keep a second connection as backup. Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa and Machakos were among them, with Murang'a, Kirinyaga and Kwale also reported to have overstretched capacity. Reports earlier in 2026 noted congestion and slower performance in busy areas. ## What it means for you | If you are | What to do | | --- | --- | | Existing user in a busy area | Expect slower evenings; check your plan in the app | | Waiting to sign up | Check availability for your address in the Starlink app or site | | Business relying on it | Add fibre or 4G/5G as a failover connection | | Remote site | Starlink is still often the only fast option | **Important**: Starlink plans and policies change. Always check the current terms on Starlink's own app or website. ## Getting the most from it - Mount the dish with a clear view of the sky - Use a proper cable route and surge protection - Add mesh or wired access points inside - Put the router on backup power See [Starlink price in Kenya](https://qyvea.co.ke/starlink-price-in-kenya) and [improving Wi-Fi coverage](https://qyvea.co.ke/how-to-improve-wifi-signal-kenya).
