Doing it safely and reliably needs a few network choices. Most people only find out what their cameras missed on the day they needed them. Read on: it takes a few minutes and could save you a lot more than that. **In this guide you will see:** - P2P apps are the easiest option. - Port forwarding needs strong passwords and updates. - VPN is the safest for advanced setups. Quick answer Remote CCTV viewing works through a manufacturer cloud (P2P) app, port forwarding on your router or a VPN. P2P is easiest, port forwarding exposes devices and is riskier if not secured, and a VPN is the safest for professional setups. You also need enough upload speed, strong unique passwords and updated firmware, and a plan for what happens when the main line drops. [Photo: Alan J.
