Tariff bands, monthly fuel and forex charges, levies and VAT change how many units a token gives: how to read it and what you can control. The grid fails on its own schedule, and your fence, cameras and lights go with it. Read on: it takes a few minutes and could save you a lot more than that. **In this guide you will see:** - Bands, adjustments and VAT all change units. - Your band follows your three-month average. - KES 1,000 buys under about 50 units in many months (illustration). Quick answer The same shillings can buy different units because your band depends on average consumption, because monthly fuel and forex adjustments change, and because levies and 16% VAT are added. As a rough illustration, KES 1,000 in the ordinary band buys under 50 units once add-ons are included. Compare receipts and cut your biggest loads.
