Installations like this are behind many cameras that flicker, go offline in the rain or stop recording without anyone noticing. It then shows the IP CCTV system that replaced it, with cameras on proper network cabling and connections protected, so the system can be relied on and maintained. ## Why IP CCTV IP cameras send a digital video stream over network cable to a network video recorder (NVR). With PoE (Power over Ethernet), one cable carries both video and power, which means fewer joints and fewer points of failure. IP cameras also offer higher resolutions and smart features like human and vehicle detection. An upgrade starts with an assessment: which cameras, cables and recorders can stay, and which parts are causing faults. Water and dust get into the joints and corrode them, causing flickering, lost video or cameras going offline, especially after rain. Can I upgrade to IP cameras and keep my old cables? Sometimes. Coax cables usually need replacing for IP, but routes and conduits can often be reused. An assessment shows what can stay. Is IP CCTV better than analogue HD?
