On the way in, a Hikvision face recognition terminal recognises enrolled staff and releases the lock. On the way out, an infrared **no-touch exit button**, mounted on the wall beside the light switch, releases the door when a hand is waved in front of it. Nobody has to touch a reader, a card or a button to get through the door, which is quicker for staff and more hygienic for everyone. ## How a no-touch exit button works A standard exit button is a push switch. A no-touch exit button uses an infrared sensor instead: when a hand comes within a few centimetres, it sends the same 'open' signal to the access controller or lock power supply. The ring usually lights up to show it's ready and changes colour when triggered. It is still an exit device, so it's installed alongside an emergency break-glass unit that releases the door even if the electronics fail. An exit button with an infrared sensor: you wave a hand in front of it instead of pressing it, and the door releases. Can a no-touch button open the door by accident? Its sensing range is short, typically a few centimetres, and it's mounted away from where people brush past, so accidental triggers are rare. What if the power fails?
