Number of cameras Camera resolution Video compression Recording hours per day Recording mode Days to keep recordings Enter your numbers above. ## How it is calculated Storage = bitrate x seconds recorded x number of cameras, plus 10% for overhead. Typical average bitrates used: H.265 2 MP 2 Mbps, 4 MP 3 Mbps, 5 MP 4 Mbps, 8 MP 6 Mbps; H.264 about double. Real bitrate depends on the scene, frame rate and camera settings, so keep 10 to 20% spare. Results are estimates for planning. Real systems depend on site conditions; Qyvea surveys and quotes before installation. ## Tips from our installers - Use hard disks made for surveillance (24-hour write), not normal PC disks. - Check the recorder's maximum disk size and number of bays before you buy. - Motion recording saves space but can miss the moments before an event; many installers use continuous recording at a lower bitrate. ## Frequently asked questions How many days of footage should I keep? Many businesses keep 14 to 30 days. Banks and some regulated sites keep longer. Decide with the owner and the insurer. Does H.265 really halve the storage? Often by 30 to 50%, depending on the scene and camera settings. What if I use RAID or two disks? Add the usable capacity of all disks; RAID reduces usable space. ## Related - [Surveillance hard disks in the store](https://qyvea.co.ke/products?search=surveillance%20hard%20disk) - [CCTV installation in Kenya](https://qyvea.co.ke/cctv) - [NVR and DVR prices in Kenya](https://qyvea.co.ke/nvr-dvr-price-in-kenya) - [All Qyvea calculators](https://qyvea.co.ke/calculators-kenya) Need it supplied and delivered?
